In brief

Russian forces fired ballistic missiles at Kyiv early Saturday, damaging residential structures and injuring two civilians, officials warned residents to stay alert ahead of U.S.-led talks in Abu Dhabi. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the strikes, noting damage to a five‑storey apartment building, a kindergarten, and additional residences.

Russian forces launched a missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv early Saturday, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who said ballistic missiles struck residential structures and wounded two civilians. The assault took place in the city’s western districts and was felt as explosions stirred the suburbs.

Mayor Klitschko, in a Telegram post at 02:00 UTC, described the blasts in the suburbs and noted that “Explosions in the Kyiv suburbs. The enemy is hitting infrastructure with ballistic missiles.”

Klitschko named a five‑storey apartment building in Kyiv’s western district that was damaged, and said debris had also struck the façade of another residential building.

The city’s military administration, also posting on Telegram that same day, reported that a building housing a kindergarten was damaged and that two people were injured.

Officials urged residents to remain alert, warning that further strikes could target civilian and strategic infrastructure, and that emergency services were prepared to respond to casualties.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in his nightly video address, warned that Russia was preparing new attacks on energy targets, bridges and other critical facilities, and urged international support.

These attacks occurred three days before U.S.-led talks in Abu Dhabi, where Ukrainian and Russian negotiators are scheduled to open dialogue in an effort to resolve the four‑and‑a‑half‑year conflict, culminating in the last talks held in February last year.
