On Friday, a Southwest Airlines flight experienced a dramatic drop shortly after takeoff from the Los Angeles area, leading to injuries among crew members and panic among passengers. Flight 1496, traveling from Hollywood Burbank Airport to Las Vegas, reportedly had to alter its route sharply to avoid a possible collision with another plane, prompting a rapid descent that left passengers in shock.

According to Southwest Airlines, the crew responded to two onboard traffic alerts, forcing them to rapidly climb and descend during the flight. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that it is looking into the incident, which occurred less than a week after another near-miss involving a commercial aircraft.

Comedian Jimmy Dore, who was onboard, shared his experience on social media, noting that the pilot's collision warning indicated an impending threat from another plane. As the turbulence escalated, a flight attendant required medical assistance, prompting applause from passengers upon landing.

Passengers described the experience as traumatizing, with one, Caitlin Burdi, recalling the moment: "It was terrifying. We really thought we were plummeting to a plane crash." The pilot later reassured the passengers that an emergency maneuver was necessary due to a loss of contact with air traffic control.

Reports indicate that the aircraft almost collided with a privately owned Hawker Hunter fighter jet shortly after takeoff, which crossed within two miles of its altitude, raising serious questions about flight safety.

Southwest Airlines assured the public of their commitment to safety, stating, "Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees," and confirmed that they are in cooperation with the FAA to understand the circumstances surrounding this alarming event.
