On Friday, Qantas said it would continue adjusting airfares and flight capacity to respond to higher fuel costs, as fuel prices are expected to remain elevated through the 2027 financial year, according to a statement cited by Xinhua news and reported by Nine News.

Fire costs for the airline and its low‑cost unit Jetstar are projected at roughly A$3.75 billion for the first half of FY27, up from A$3.6 billion forecasted in August, the carrier said. It also confirmed that domestic capacity for both brands in the third quarter of FY27 would be reduced by 4 % compared with the same period a year earlier, double the 2 % reduction previously announced.

The group has hedged about 85 % of its fuel exposure for FY27, mainly against Brent crude oil prices, and said full‑year unit revenue for both its domestic and international businesses was expected to grow 8–10 % year‑on‑year in the first half of FY27, unchanged from its August guidance.

“Based on forward curves, fuel prices are expected to remain elevated through FY27, the Group said,” the statement added, summarising its ongoing strategy of adjusting fares and capacity in response to rising fuel costs.
