In brief

Emma Watson, known for her portrayal of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, has been banned from driving for six months following a speeding offense where she exceeded the limit in Oxford.

The court proceedings revealed that on July 31 of last year, Watson was caught driving at 38 mph in a 30 mph zone, at which time she already had nine points accumulated on her driving license. During a brief hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court, it was reported that she would also face a fine totaling £1,044, although she was not present at the proceedings. Watson, now 35 and pursuing a master's in creative writing at the University of Oxford, initially gained fame in 2001 with the release of the first Harry Potter film. She continued her role in all subsequent Potter films until the franchise concluded in 2011 and has since appeared in various critically acclaimed projects including Beauty and the Beast and Little Women. In an amusing coincidence, another Harry Potter actress, Zoe Wanamaker, also faced a similar situation and received the same penalty for speeding on the same day in a different court. Wanamaker, who portrayed Madam Hooch, was caught driving 46 mph in a 40 mph zone, bringing her license points to nine as well. Both actresses received three additional points on their licenses, leading to a six-month disqualification, showcasing the increased scrutiny under which public figures navigate driving regulations.
