The police in Brazil announced on Sunday that they had successfully disrupted a plot aimed at detonating explosives during a Lady Gaga concert in Rio de Janeiro, which attracted more than two million attendees. The free performance, held at Copacabana Beach, went on without any incidents, and Lady Gaga was informed about the threat through media outlets.
According to the police report, the group behind the attack was attempting to recruit individuals, including teenagers, to use improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails during the event. Their targets were allegedly focused on vulnerable demographics, including children, adolescents, and members of the L.G.B.T.Q. community.
Law enforcement officials revealed that the leader of the conspiracy was apprehended in Rio Grande do Sul for illegal firearm possession, while another teenager was arrested for possessing child pornography, though it remains uncertain if they face any legal charges at this time.
Representatives for Lady Gaga, known for her outspoken support for L.G.B.T.Q. rights, did not offer any comment following the police announcement. The concert was part of a broader initiative to host large-scale free performances at Copacabana Beach, which has previously seen concerts by international stars like Madonna.
