Five months after 10 inmates broke out of a Louisiana jail, the last escapee has been captured, Louisiana State Police confirmed on Wednesday.

The escaped inmate, 28-year-old Derrick Groves, was taken into custody in Atlanta, Georgia, after a brief stand-off, police said. Authorities released gas canisters into a house where Groves was hiding and ultimately found him in a crawl space.

The escape was made possible when the inmates removed a toilet from the wall and broke through a series of metal bars at the Orleans Parish Justice Center. The jailbreak raised questions regarding security and staffing flaws at the facility.

The inmates had left scrawled messages on the wall above the hole, mocking their escape's ease, with writings like 'To Easy LoL'.

Three of the escapees were captured within 24 hours, and the rest have been found in subsequent weeks. Groves was located thanks to a tip, leading to the conclusion of this extensive manhunt.

Convicted of second-degree murder, Groves faces new charges related to the jail break, ensuring he will face severe legal repercussions for his actions.
