In brief

Authorities in Indonesia are launching a helicopter rescue for Juliana Marins, a Brazilian woman in her 20s, who fell while hiking on Mount Rinjani and has been uncontactable since Saturday morning.

Rescue operations are intensifying to locate Juliana Marins, who fell over 1,600 feet on Mount Rinjani, Indonesia's second-highest volcano. The 20-something woman was climbing with a group, including a guide, when the incident occurred. As of Tuesday, Indonesian rescuers, led by Muhamad Hariyadi from the search and rescue office in Mataram, reported preparing a helicopter equipped with 2,000 meters of rope to access the steep terrain—an operation classified as “very risky.” Family confirmed Juliana has been unreachable since the fall on Saturday.Mount Rinjani, located on Lombok Island, is favored for its breathtaking views and the beautiful blue volcanic lake situated within the caldera. Marins had previously shared moments from her hike via video, expressing the allure of the views she was experiencing. Search teams have discovered items such as a flashlight and hiking pole presumed to belong to the stranded hiker, validating concerns for her safety as they work against time in challenging conditions.
