In brief
Mongolia is close to achieving its goal of one million foreign tourist arrivals in 2026, having attracted 919,104 visitors so far. The government has pushed for year‑round tourism and extended its "Years to Visit Mongolia" campaign to 2028 to keep the momentum.
Ulaan Bator – Mongolia is on track to hit its 2026 target of one million foreign tourist arrivals, officials said on Saturday, according to Xinhua. The 919,104 visitors recorded so far represent 91.9 % of the annual goal, the Mongolian Tourism Organization reported.
In 2025 the nation welcomed more than 847,000 foreign visitors, a 5 % rise over the previous year, the same outlet noted. The figures underscore a steady lift in global interest in the country’s vast landscapes.
The tourism minister said the sector is a key diversification strategy for an economy that has traditionally depended on mining exports. The harsh continental climate, with its long, severe winters and short summers, has long posed seasonal challenges for visitors.
To counter that, the government has been promoting year‑round tourism. The Ministry cited the launch of marketing campaigns, visa facilitation measures and the development of year‑long infrastructure as part of that push.
Campaign Extension
To keep the momentum, the government has extended its “Years to Visit Mongolia” campaign through 2028, aiming to draw at least one million foreign visitors each year, Xinhua reported. The extension reflects the administration’s confidence that the strategy will boost tourism inflows and support broader economic goals.
