On Saturday, October 31, 2026, the General Assembly of Judges in Sofia elected members for the Supreme Judicial Council, and BTA reported that judge Krasimira Milachkova of the Administrative Court of Sofia City outlined her priorities for improving judicial appointments and career development while campaigning for a seat on the council.
According to BTA, Milachkova said the council should modernize personnel procedures, introduce objective criteria for assessing judges, and address issues of secondment. She also highlighted the need for a more accurate workload measurement system and the unification of court case‑management systems to support precise assessments.
BTA reported that Milachkova further argued that expanding e‑justice, bolstering judicial self‑governance, and improving communication with the media and public would enhance transparency and access to justice. She voiced support for developing alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and encouraging magistrates to participate more actively in legislative discussions.
BTA added that her proposals also include the introduction of clear and objective criteria for judging judges’ work, ensuring predictable career progression, and ensuring that changes to the judicial map take account of local circumstances and guarantee citizens’ access to justice.
