Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced that crude from the Hamada oil fields has been halted at the Zawiya refinery after an armed group shut a valve on the main pipeline, creating a sharp pressure spike that forced technical teams to stop pumping to safeguard the refinery’s safety.
The NOC warned that the continued closure could result in a loss of about 15,000 barrels per day of crude. In a statement, the NOC called on authorities to take necessary measures to reopen the valve and resume pumping as soon as possible.
Hydrocarbon Processing reports that this is the second time this month that oil flows to Zawiya have been halted by an armed group, underscoring the recurring disruptions that Libya’s oil facilities face.
A live update from BRECORDER noted that the valve shutdown also impacted the Tahara oilfields, reducing production at both fields and highlighting the broader effect on the region’s oil output.
