A 21-year-old Ukrainian man, Roman Lavrynovych, has been charged with arson in connection to fires at properties and a vehicle linked to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Lavrynovych, a resident of Sydenham in southeastern London, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing three counts of arson “with intent to endanger life.” The incidents occurred in North London, with one of the fires igniting outside the doorway of Mr. Starmer's former family residence in the Kentish Town area, where he lived until last year.

During the court proceedings, Lavrynovych, who was arrested on Tuesday, spoke briefly through an interpreter to confirm his identifying information. Prosecutor Sarah Przybylska explained that the car and both properties were directly associated with the Prime Minister, but noted the reasoning behind the alleged offenses remains unclear at this stage.

Lavrynovych will remain in custody until his next court appearance at London's Central Criminal Court, the Old Bailey, scheduled for June 6. The investigations into these incidents are being spearheaded by counterterrorism police, given their relation to a high-profile political figure.

Prior to this incident, one fire ignited on May 8, involving a car owned previously by Mr. Starmer, while another occurred at an Islington property that he had lived in during the 1990s. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the fires, although damage was caused to the doorway of the Kentish Town residence, which is currently being rented out.
