Charlie Kirk Shot Dead: The Pursuit of a Suspect Intensifies

Charlie Kirk, an influential right-wing activist and close ally of US President Donald Trump, was shot dead while speaking at an event at a university in Utah.

Kirk, 31, was speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem on 10 September, 2025, as part of his 'American Comeback' tour. He sat under a white gazebo, fielding questions from a crowd of about 3,000.

During the event, as he answered a question on subjects surrounding gun violence, a single gunshot rang out, reportedly fired from the roof of the Losee Center, which overlooks the quad.

Immediately after the shot, Kirk was visibly injured with a wound to his neck and was rushed off the stage amidst chaos and screams from the audience.

No one has been apprehended in connection with the shooting as of yet. However, the FBI has released images of a person of interest and discovered a high-powered Mauser .30-06 bolt-action rifle hidden in a wooded area nearby, which was wrapped in a towel.

Authorities also found other evidence, including a palm print and footwear impression, as they continue their investigation.

Witnesses reported seeing a suspect resembling a college student fleeing the scene, notably after an intense video captured him jumping from the roof after the shooting.

The aftermath of the shooting has seen widespread shock and grief across the nation, with many prominent figures reacting to the tragedy, including President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama, both condemning the violence.

As investigations continue and political tensions rise, this incident highlights the volatile atmosphere surrounding political discourse in the United States.
