On Nov. 1, 2026, the “26th of July” Solidarity with Cuba Group in El Salvador publicly praised governments that voted at the United Nations to lift the U.S. blockade of Cuba.
The Group’s statement, released in San Salvador, said the UN General Assembly vote, approved on Oct 27, was a demonstration of international solidarity and respect for national sovereignty.
The resolution, titled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,” received 130 votes in favour, according to the group.
The group also highlighted that the blockade is a “policy of death” and that it blocks access to cancer medicines, surgical supplies, and other medical treatments.
A group of Salvadoran war‑disabled individuals who received medical care in Cuba joined the statement, reiterating their condemnation of the blockade and demanding its swift termination.
The declaration also recalled that for more than six decades the Cuban people have endured this inhumane aggression, and that the blockade has had a heavy human toll, including impacts on food, energy, development of women, men, children, youth, and the elderly.
