At least 13 people have tragically lost their lives following a roof collapse at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic. The incident occurred during a performance by popular merengue singer Rubby Pérez at the Jet Set discotheque in the capital, Santo Domingo, in the early hours of Tuesday. As rescue workers continue to search for survivors in the rubble, many individuals remain injured.
Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader has offered his condolences to the grieving families. According to Juan Manuel Méndez, the director of the Emergency Operations Centre (COE), rescuers are still trying to locate individuals trapped beneath the debris. Méndez reported that ambulances have been busy making 93 trips to local hospitals, often transporting multiple victims at a time. The total number of injuries has yet to be confirmed, but officials remain hopeful that those buried under the collapsed structure may still be alive.
