In brief

Amazon’s third‑quarter sales climbed 12% year‑on‑year to $201.94 billion, largely driven by a 39.3% jump in AWS revenue. Net income slid 2.4% to $20.69 billion, mainly due to a $9.5 billion pretax gain from its Anthropic investment. The company forecast fourth‑quarter sales of $240–$247 billion and warned of negative free cash flow for the year.

Amazon announced on Thursday that its third‑quarter net sales rose 12 percent year‑on‑year to 201.94 billion U.S. dollars, while net income fell 2.4 percent to 20.69 billion U.S. dollars, according to Xinhua.

Amazon attributed the decline in net income largely to a $9.5 billion pretax gain from its investment in the artificial‑intelligence company Anthropic, which occurred in Q3 2025.

Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud‑computing division, reported net sales of 45.98 billion U.S. dollars, up 39.3 percent year‑on‑year—the fastest growth in nearly five years—while operating income rose 55 percent to 17.77 billion U.S. dollars.

Sales from Amazon’s advertising services increased 11 percent year‑on‑year to 19.64 billion U.S. dollars.

Amazon’s free cash flow turned negative in the twelve months ended Sept. 30, with an outflow of 42.4 billion U.S. dollars versus an inflow of 14.8 billion U.S. dollars a year earlier, primarily reflecting increased investment in AI infrastructure.

The company forecasts fourth‑quarter net sales to range from 240 billion to 247 billion U.S. dollars, representing year‑on‑year growth of 12 percent to 16 percent, with operating income projected to reach 28.5 billion to 33.5 billion U.S. dollars, up from 25 billion U.S. dollars a year earlier.

Amazon stock closed at 254.60 U.S. dollars on October 28, 2026, up 0.6 percent from the previous close, according to MarketChameleon.
