The Magic Circle, an esteemed London-based society of magicians, is on the hunt for a woman who, under the guise of "Raymond Lloyd," successfully infiltrated their ranks in 1991. This daring illusionist cleverly deceived the male-centric organization, gaining acceptance before revealing her true identity and facing expulsion shortly after.
Now, the society is eager to mend fences and invite her back, with president Marvin Berglas expressing a heartfelt desire to extend a warm welcome. "I would love to look her in the eyes and say, on behalf of the other magicians that we have, ‘You’re absolutely welcome,’” he stated.
Founded in 1905, The Magic Circle boasts a roster that includes renowned illusionists like David Copperfield and Criss Angel, but has historically reserved membership for men. The entry of women into this historically masculine domain occurred when two performers decided to challenge the status quo. One of these pioneers, Jenny Winstanley, commented back in 1991, emphasizing her aspiration to be the first woman accepted into the club, stating, “I really wanted to prove that women are as good as men.”
As The Magic Circle opens up in the modern era, their outreach to the enigmatic individual behind "Raymond Lloyd" symbolizes a significant shift, acknowledging the importance of diversity and inclusivity within the captivating world of magic.
