The US National Weather Service has reported multiple tornadoes across Missouri and nearby Illinois, with severe weather patterns extending toward the East Coast. The tornado was first detected around 2:30 PM local time, near Forest Park, a notable site including the St. Louis Zoo and the historic venue of the 1904 Olympic Games.

In the aftermath, the St. Louis Fire Department reported rescuing three individuals trapped under the rubble of the Centennial Christian Church, with one of them later confirmed deceased. To safeguard residents from additional hazards and deter looting, a curfew has been established from 9 PM to 6 AM in the areas most affected by the disaster.

Mayor Cara Spencer expressed the community's sorrow, stating, "Our city is grieving tonight. The loss of life and the destruction is truly, truly horrendous. We will have much to rebuild in the coming days, but right now our focus is on saving lives and ensuring community safety."
