Zhihan Zhao, on holiday from China with his mother Xianhong Huang, was exploring the renowned Irish cliffs when the incident occurred. The young boy had walked approximately 50 meters ahead of his mother when he was last seen. Eyewitness Marion Tourgon described the moment she watched Zhihan attempt to regain his footing after slipping, stating that it all unfolded very quickly and without any indication of distress. Following the fall, extensive search efforts launched by the Irish Coast Guard and local authorities eventually led to the discovery of his body five days later, which had been found by a fisherman off the coast.
During the inquest held in Kilrush, the coroner expressed condolences to Zhihan's grieving mother, acknowledging the profound pain of such a sudden loss. The court confirmed that Zhihan's death was caused by multiple traumatic injuries consistent with falling from a significant height. Since this incident marked the second fatality at the Cliffs of Moher in a short span of time, safety measures have since been reassessed, leading to the closure of several trail sections in an effort to prevent future accidents.
