In brief
In a series of coordinated attacks, Ukraine targeted the Bashneft‑Novoil refinery in Bashkortostan and the Slavneft‑Yanos refinery in Yaroslavl, sparking large fires and injuring residents. President Zelenskiy emphasized that these strikes aim to cut Russia’s oil revenue. Ukrainian forces also hit black‑sea patrol boats used for illegal oil exports, while Russian retaliation inflicted casualties in Balakliya, Kharkiv, and Kherson, a city that experienced a full blackout. The front line remains static as both sides intensify attacks on energy and transportation hubs.
Ukraine says it has struck two Russian oil refineries deep inside enemy territory.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reports that the Bashneft‑Novoil refinery in Bashkortostan and the Slavneft‑Yanos refinery in Yaroslavl were hit by drone assaults aimed at curbing Russia’s oil revenue.
Yaroslavl governor Mikhail Evraev confirmed the refinery was on fire and that four people were injured. He also warned that 93 drones were intercepted overnight over the region.
Ukraine also claims that two military patrol boats and a “shadow fleet” of vessels in the Black Sea were damaged; these are believed to be tankers used for illegal oil exports.
In the same day, Russian forces reported that eleven people were killed in attacks on Ukrainian towns, while the southern city of Kherson suffered a complete blackout following the hit on a critical infrastructure facility. NetBlocks recorded internet outages dropping to about 31% at peak.
Elsewhere, Ukrainians noted that three people died in Balakliya after a Russian drone strike on private homes, with fires reported in two residential buildings. Kharkiv authorities added that another two people were killed when drones struck a train station in Lozova, injuring eight more.
Russian military reports that it intercepted or shot down 605 Ukrainian drones overnight and targeted fuel, energy, and transport facilities, including drone storage sites.
These incidents underscore the escalating war along a largely static front, with both nations intensifying attacks on key infrastructure.
