Two Die at Moldovan Border as Drone War Rages
A Russian drone strike on the Starokozache border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova killed two residents and injured several others, prompting the crossing to shut down overnight.
The attack, reported by Ukrainian officials, occurred just before dawn. Two people were killed, three injured, and a Moldovan driver also sustained injuries. Images from the scene show several burnt‑out cars amid debris.
Zelensky, speaking from Kyiv, condemned the aggression and called for “international support” to halt the drone campaign before it spreads further. The Ukrainian president said the country will not tolerate further attacks.
In the same time frame, Russian authorities claimed to have shot down 596 Ukrainian drones overnight. A separate Ukrainian strike hit a nine‑storey residential building in Kyiv, killing one woman and injuring 14 people, including two children. Russian forces also used drones to target the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, killing four people, and an industrial facility in Arctic‑city Novy Urengoy, where a fire broke out but no casualties occurred.
The ongoing drone exchanges reflect the intensifying military conflict despite recent diplomatic efforts. Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with former U.S. President Donald Trump about ending the war, and U.S. envoy Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are seeking to facilitate direct talks with Kyiv. The situation remains fluid as both sides weigh options for a potential resolution while preparing for heightened security measures along the Moldovan border.
