Incident Overview
On7June a Texas police officer was conducting a routine traffic stop when he was alerted to a nearby vehicle emitting smoke. CorporalJoshuaSwisher quickly directed the driver to the emergency lane, but the vehicle ignited beneath the hood while the driver was still inside.
Bodycam Footage
Bodycam and dashcam footage captured the officer reaching the front of the burning car and pulling the driver out seconds before the flames engulfed the vehicle. The video, now publicly released, shows the officer’s swift action and the subsequent explosion that threatened nearby cars and pedestrians.
Response & Impact
The incident occurred in the Dallas area and was attended by emergency services after the officer secured the driver. The quick rescue prevented further casualties and the fire was contained with the cooperation of highway authorities.
