The long‑running animated show has announced that its new 29th season will be called South America, a direct reference to President Donald Trump’s recent geographic renaming efforts.
Creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker posted a statement on the show’s official social media that praised the “bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google” and explained the decision to switch the name from South Park to South America.
The renaming comes after Trump signed an executive order in August to call Lake Ontario Lake America and the Gulf of Mexico Gulf of America. Apple and Google updated the names in their maps apps for US users.
South Park historically splits the President with satirical content, from years ago when a top‑rated episode shocked Oval Office officials. The new campaign unfolds just after the series collected an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program.
The social media image that the creators shared shows a familiar park sign replaced with America, underscoring the new title while offering a sarcastic nod to the President’s actions.
Paramount Skydance, the parent company of the show, remains in the spotlight as the Trump administration approved a $111bn merger with Warner Bros Discovery last year, only for the deal to be suspended until 2027 amid state lawsuits for anti‑competitive concerns.
The next season, set to debut on September 16, promises the usual blend of humor and political zing. Fans can anticipate fresh jokes at the President and may see references to the ongoing merger drama.
