Vampire horror film Sinners has broken the record for the most Oscar nominations received by a single film, after being nominated for 16 of Hollywood's most coveted honours.

The film beat the previous record of 14 nominations, which was shared by classics like All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land. It emerged ahead of its nearest rival this year, One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which is up for 13 awards.

Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, features performances from its lead Michael B Jordan, alongside British co-stars Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo. Key nominations for the film include best actor for Jordan and best supporting actress for Mosaku, along with best picture.

Despite being primarily a horror film, critics have praised Sinners for its depth, exploring complex themes of racism and redemption through an engaging narrative that intertwines horror with historical and musical elements.

Other notable nominees this year include Timothee Chalamet, who is in contention for his third nomination, and Jessie Buckley, who is favored to win best actress for her role in Hamnet.

The winners will be announced during the ceremony in Hollywood on March 15.
