The BBC team was forced to navigate blocked roads as it trudged from Kathmandu toward Trishuli, a city near Nepal’s border with Tibet that has been smashed by floodwaters.
Wrecked bridges, abandoned vehicles and rising water fanned a scene of ruin. Ambulance vans and even hearses lined the dusty route, carrying shrouded bodies of villagers who had no escape as the river swallowed entire settlements.
South‑Asia correspondent Azadeh Moshiri reports that rescuers are still racing against time, chasing survivors in seemingly endless floods that have decimated homes and isolated one of the hardest‑hit districts in the country.
