Pilot Arrested for 70,000 Ecstasy Pills at Jakarta Airport
CCTV footage released Monday showed a Malaysian pilot under arrest at Jakarta’s Soekarno‑Hatta International Airport after authorities discovered a silver suitcase filled with a staggering 70,000 ecstasy tablets.
ASAT officers swiftly removed several bags that together weighed roughly 26 kg (four stone), intercepting the illegal cargo before it could reach its intended destination.
The pilot admitted to being paid an estimated £9,000 for the smuggling operation, but police noted he was under the influence of the drug when the arrest was made.
Jakarta officials have announced that the seized tablets will be handed over to national drug‑enforcement agencies for further investigation, and the case is being treated as a high‑priority international drug‑trafficking offence.
