Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores, a 45‑year‑old from the small Andean district of Queropalca, has emerged as mayor after a closely contested election that attracted global curiosity.

The centre‑left Ahora Nación party nominated the man after the voters of the rural district returned the ballot with 34 % of the vote, a lead of only 25 votes over a right‑wing candidate.

His name—identical to the infamous dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini—ignited interest that dwarfed the modest 900‑strong electorate in the remote Huánuco region, roughly 360 km from Lima.

Local media note that Peruvian politics has previous odd namespuns, citing a 2018 mayoral win in Yúngar by a candidate who proclaimed “I’m the good Hitler,” and a 2020 Namibian election in which a person named Adolf Hitler Uunona prevailed.

While the name may spark amusement abroad, residents emphasize the elected mayor’s platform and plans to improve infrastructure, education, and public services for their community.
