In brief
A recent road trip to Sardinia unveils breathtaking coastal views and the distinctive lifestyle of the island's inhabitants. From charming conversations in quaint towns to scenic beaches, the trip emphasizes Sardinia's separation from mainland Italy, both geographically and culturally.
A photographer embarked on an exhilarating journey around Sardinia, capturing the breathtaking scenery and unique lifestyle of this Mediterranean gem. Known for its coastal cliffs and rich cultural heritage, Sardinia stands distinct from mainland Italy. Amidst the sleepy charm of Cuglieri, the photographer encountered friendly locals, whose warm interaction highlighted the island's sense of community. Antonio, a cheerful local, exclaimed joyfully upon learning about her Sicilian roots, illustrating the islanders' pride in their identity as "isolani," or islanders. This picturesque region lies about 120 miles from the Italian mainland, prompting locals to refer to the rest of the country as "il continente" or the continent. The trip was focused on capturing the essence of Sardinia's unique lifestyle and natural beauty, showcasing its extensive 1,150 miles of shoreline, where not all beaches are easily accessible. With plans to fly into Cagliari, the island's capital, and exploring the coastline counterclockwise, the photographer aimed to swim, hike, and visit smaller islands dotting the Mediterranean. From the serene beaches of Capo Carbonara to the rugged cliffs of regional parks, Sardinia’s alluring coastline promises a spirit of adventure and tranquility for all who visit.
