ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — After spending two nights in jail, fired Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore was expected to be arraigned Friday amid a police investigation of an alleged assault.

Moore, 39, was fired on Wednesday for what the school described as an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, which hours later placed him in police custody.

Details surrounding Moore’s arrest remain sparse, but authorities confirmed he has been held since at the Washtenaw County Jail and is currently under investigation. Following inquiries from media, Pittsfield Township police stated officers were called to look into an alleged assault and took a person into custody but did not disclose specific names.

Michigan's administration has hesitated to reveal specifics of the alleged relationship; however, credible evidence against Moore has been mentioned, leading to his dismissal. Athletic director Warde Manuel referred to the actions as “a clear violation of university policy.”

Moore's contract, which was a five-year commitment at a base salary of $5.5 million, stipulates that Michigan is not liable for a buyout due to his termination for cause.

Previously, Moore had been promoted after a successful season, following the departure of Jim Harbaugh to the NFL. The complications affect upcoming games, including the Citrus Bowl against No. 14 Texas, where interim coaching duties will be handled by Biff Poggi.

The school faces uncertainties going forward, including potential player transfers and changes in donor support following this incident.
