Rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, has been hospitalized following a stabbing incident in a California prison. The altercation occurred on Tuesday morning at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, approximately 75 miles north of Los Angeles. According to state corrections officials, Lanez was attacked by another inmate in his housing unit. Staff at the facility promptly responded by activating emergency medical services and administering aid before transporting him to a local hospital for further treatment.
Reports indicate that Lanez's injuries are non-life threatening. As of now, there has been no further information provided regarding his condition. An investigation into the assault is currently underway, and officials have not disclosed the motive behind the attack, which took place around 07:20 local time (15:20 GMT).
Tory Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion at a party in 2020. He was convicted on three felony gun-related charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, in 2023. The altercation arose after the two, who had been involved in a prior romantic relationship, engaged in a heated argument while leaving a pool party at Kylie Jenner's Hollywood home.
During the trial, Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez shot at the ground, ordering her to "dance" while she insisted on exiting the vehicle. She later underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments from her foot. Throughout the legal proceedings, Lanez maintained his innocence and refused to apologize, causing a significant rift within the hip-hop community with artists expressing divided opinions on the case.
Before his conviction, Lanez had released seven top 10 albums in the U.S. over a span of seven years and continues to tease a new album titled "Peterson" from his prison cell.
