In brief
L’Oreal says the surge in GLP‑1 weight‑loss drugs is reshaping the beauty market, especially skincare. CEO Nicolas Hieronimus said the drugs’ popularity has an impact on consumer behaviour and triggered new product lines to counter loose skin. The company’s stake in Galderma and its own clinical trials aim to develop aesthetic solutions for those experiencing skin sagging after rapid weight loss. Despite the market shift, L’Oreal’s Q3 sales rose 7.7 % beating expectations, underscoring the resilience of the beauty industry.
L'Oreal highlights how the surge in GLP‑1 weight‑loss drugs—like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro—has shifted beauty consumer habits, especially skincare.
Chief executive Nicolas Hieronimus said the booming use of these drugs is a very important phenomenon for us and is already affecting beauty and dry‑skin markets.
The drug class not only promotes rapid weight loss but can leave users with loose, sagging skin, particularly around the face. In response, L’Oreal’s brands SkinCeuticals and Kiehl’s have rolled out products designed to complement GLP‑1 therapy and help tighten skin.
Having increased its stake in dermatology group Galderma to 20 %, L’Oreal is testing new aesthetic medicines on GLP‑1 users in clinical trials that monitor skin laxity. Galderma’s Sculptra and Restylane injectables are already on the market.
Overall, the company’s Q3 sales grew 7.7 %, beating expectations, and the firm views these developments as an opportunity to broaden its beauty portfolio.
