In brief

A Wisconsin man, Ryan Borgwardt, who staged his death and left his family behind three months ago, has recently confirmed his safety in a video sent to authorities. During a news conference held by Green Lake County Sheriff Mark A. Podoll, the authorities shared a clip where Borgwardt reassures he is “safe” and “secure” while residing in an undisclosed location in Eastern Europe. Although law enforcement has been maintaining communication with him, they emphasize that he is reluctant to return home. Sheriff Podoll expressed concern, urging Borgwardt to reconcile with his five-member family and resolve the turmoil he has caused.

In the video recorded on November 11, Borgwardt appears in a minimalistic apartment setting. He states, “Good evening, it’s Ryan Borgwardt… I am safe, secure, no problem,” right before signing off. Despite regular correspondence with officials, Borgwardt's exact whereabouts remain uncertain. Sheriff Podoll admitted that the authorities continue to engage emotionally, hoping to prompt his return to Wisconsin, where he left behind a wife and three children. He affirmed their commitment to persuading him, stating, “We’re not going to give up. We’re going to continue because he needs to come home to his kids.”
