Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Sexual Assault

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was handed a 15‑year term after a jury convicted him of a criminal sexual act against former assistant Miriam Haley.

In a victim‑impact statement, Haley said the assault had “devastated” her life and sense of security.

Weinstein appeared in court in a wheelchair, denied the charges but apologized for any harm caused.

He had already spent years in New York prison and faced a separate Los Angeles conviction. This sentence follows a 2020 conviction that was overturned by New York’s highest court in 2024, citing an unfair trial.

The judge, Curtis Farber, noted that Weinstein had “taken what he wanted by force and never accepted responsibility.” He set the prison term at 15 years.

Weinstein now remains in Bellevue Hospital’s prison ward amid health issues noted during his incarceration.

The case sparked the #MeToo movement and has been a challenging legal journey for prosecutors, with multiple trials on rape and abuse allegations.
