SEATTLE (AP) — Chinese government officials are warning travelers to exercise caution and to avoid entering the United States via Seattle. This advisory follows reports of persistent harassment faced by Chinese nationals from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel.

Recently, about 20 Chinese scholars who traveled through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to attend an academic conference encountered what the Consular Affairs Office described as 'unreasonable' inspections. These scholars were reportedly denied entry, prompting the Chinese government to issue a statement of concern.

In a post shared on social media platform X, it was stated that citizens planning to visit the U.S. should prioritize their safety and security and consider alternative entry points instead of Seattle.

Moreover, the Chinese foreign ministry encouraged travelers to familiarize themselves with U.S. entry regulations in advance. They advised, 'If you encounter questioning from U.S. enforcement personnel, you should handle it calmly and rationally.'

Seattle, which has a significant Chinese population — approximately 166,000 residents as of 2019 according to the Pew Research Center — remains a focal point for concerned travelers. As tensions regarding entry procedures continue to escalate, the Chinese embassy urges citizens to remain vigilant and prepared.
