The Israeli military says its air force has carried out its 'most powerful strike' in Yemen in response to the Houthi movement's repeated drone and missile attacks on Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported targeting facilities connected to the Houthi's security and intelligence services as well as military bases in the capital Sanaa. The Houthi-run government's health ministry condemned the strikes as a 'brutal crime', asserting that civilian infrastructure and residential buildings were impacted, with a reported eight fatalities.

This latest strike follows a Houthi drone attack the previous day, which injured 22 individuals in Eilat, Israel. The Houthi movement has maintained control over much of north-western Yemen following the ousting of the country's internationally recognized government, leading to a protracted civil war. The attacking force has been active against Israel and international shipping since unrest escalated with the Gaza conflict that commenced in October 2023.

Israel has conducted multiple air strikes in Yemen in retaliation to the increasing frequency of missile and drone assaults by the Houthis, ensuring a cycle of violence as both sides continue their military campaigns.

Videos from Sanaa depicted thick plumes of smoke erupting from several locations after the Israeli air strikes, and local reports indicated that the attacks specifically targeted areas believed to house Houthi military installations. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz remarked on X (formerly Twitter) that the recent air operation was intended to neutralize what they term 'terror targets'. With this ongoing conflict, the humanitarian situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate amid escalating military actions.
