A 6.0‑ magnitude earthquake struck the southeastern coast of Honshu, Japan, at 2215 GMT on Saturday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

GFZ reported that the initial epicenter was located at 33.77°N latitude and 137.12°E longitude, and that the seismic event occurred at a depth of 350.9 km.

The quake was recorded across multiple Japanese seismographic stations, confirming the depth and magnitude noted by GFZ.

Local authorities in the affected prefectures have not issued evacuation orders, and no immediate damage reports have been released.

GFZ’s preliminary analysis indicates the tectonic setting is consistent with subduction zone activity along the Nankai Trough.

Further detailed studies are expected as seismic data from additional networks become available.
