In brief
Beyoncé has shattered the record for most Grammy nominations, now at 99, surpassing her husband Jay-Z. This comes courtesy of her latest album, "Cowboy Carter," which garnered her 11 nominations for the upcoming ceremony, including prestigious categories like album of the year and song of the year.
Beyoncé's impressive milestone, achieved from a total of 88 nominations alongside Jay-Z, marks her the most-nominated artist in Grammy history. Her 11 nods this year also position her as the female artist with the most nominations in a single year. Despite her accolades, she has yet to secure the coveted album of the year award. The 2025 Grammy nominations reveal a competitive landscape, with top contenders such as Taylor Swift, who has four album of the year wins under her belt, entering the fray with "The Tortured Poets Department." Other prominent nominees include Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Charli XCX, each receiving seven nominations. The Beatles earned recognition for an unfinished John Lennon track, "Now And Then."Beyoncé's journey to this historic milestone is underscored by her 32 Grammy wins, making her the Recording Academy's most awarded artist. However, Jay-Z called attention to the disparity of her lacks-winning in the album of the year category, a point he echoed during his acceptance speech for a lifetime achievement award earlier this year.In an interesting twist, the nominations also include breakout artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, both competing in all major categories including album and song of the year. Notably, the Grammy's record for oldest nominee is now held by former President Jimmy Carter, at the age of 100. This year's nominations were broad, but some notable names like Katy Perry and Dua Lipa were surprisingly absent. The 94 categories saw over 20,000 entries, with voting set to commence before the big reveal on February 2, 2025, in Los Angeles. Grammy Awards 2025 promises to be a thrilling event, as it reflects the ever-changing landscape of the music industry and highlights diverse talents within it.
