In brief

Police revealed that Nina Kutina, a 40-year-old Russian national, faces deportation after overstaying her visa while living in a cave with her daughters in Gokarna.

In a surprising turn of events, police in Gokarna, Karnataka, discovered a Russian woman, Nina Kutina, living in a cave with her two young daughters. The discovery occurred during a routine patrol on July 9, where Inspector Sridhar S.R. spotted a statue of a Hindu deity hidden among the trees, which led him to a makeshift entry covered by red saris.Upon investigation, it was revealed that Kutina, aged 40, had been residing in the cave for approximately a week, accompanied by her daughters, aged four and six. The family had created a cozy environment for themselves, complete with yoga practices, meditation by candlelight, and meals prepared on a wood-fired stove. Pictures of Hindu deities adorned the cave walls, signifying the deep spiritual connection she sought in her life. While the local authorities expressed concern for their safety due to the cave's location in a region prone to landslides and dangerous wildlife, Kutina expressed her determination to remain in the forest for spiritual reasons. Superintendent M. Narayana mentioned that she was uninterested in leaving her chosen lifestyle, insisting on continuing her worship and connection with nature. As the situation unfolds, authorities are faced with the challenge of addressing Kutina's immigration status, as she has overstayed her visa and could face deportation following this unusual encounter in the wilderness.
