In brief

As spring arrives, many embrace the annual ritual of cleaning out closets and rediscovering lost items, from clothes to precious snapshots. This act promotes not just physical space, but mental clarity and an opportunity to cherish those meaningful artifacts.

With the arrival of spring, it's customary to revisit the clutter that resides in our homes, especially in hidden corners like closets. As the weather warms, we unearth clothes that have patiently waited for their moment. In the Northern Hemisphere's late May, warmer days replace the cool ones, signaling us to finally hang up those winter coats until next fall.I've been making trips to the thrift store filled with bags of clothes I no longer need, pieces that have taken up valuable space—both physical and mental. It's refreshing to let go, reclaiming storage for the items that truly matter. With old clothing gone, there's less to ponder upon whenever I open my closet door. A friend recently shared her journey through a box of loose photographs, nostalgic tokens from her childhood and formative years. This box, often forgotten, contained memories she had long planned to curate. Instead of storing them away, she decided to prominently display a selection in her living room, turning them into conversation starters and easy-to-access memories rather than digital archives.Spring cleaning provides us the chance to clear out not just the unnecessary, but also to thoughtfully choose what fills the newly available space in our lives. It's an invitation to consider other often-overlooked treasures—old love letters, postcards, and childhood artwork—that deserve a presence in our daily experiences. Instead of waiting for a future project, perhaps now is the time to celebrate these keepsakes and invite them back into our lives.
