The alarming rise of ISIS-Mozambique has turned Cabo Delgado from a peaceful region to a haven for extremism, with almost 6,000 lives claimed and around half of the local population displaced. Local fishermen and farmers have found themselves in dire straits, struggling for basic needs amidst their province's wealth of natural treasures such as rubies and gas. With ongoing political unrest, including violent protests leading to significant casualties, the region's situation is precarious. Just recently, Cyclone Chido struck, displacing tens of thousands more and cutting off access to food and clean water for many survivors. This combination of conflict and natural disaster marks a troubling period for this historically peaceful part of southern Africa.
