Zeytin's Journey: Rescued Baby Gorilla Reclaims Health After Smuggling Nightmare

A baby gorilla, rescued last year from a plane's shipping container at Istanbul airport, may soon be returned to his native Nigeria.

The infant, aptly named Zeytin by the public, has been under the care of Turkey's Polonezkoy Zoo since his rescue, undergoing essential rehabilitation after a traumatic ordeal with smugglers. He has made impressive strides in recovery, gaining weight and height since his discovery in December.

As Turkish authorities prepare Zeytin for his return to Nigeria, they are diligently seeking assurances that he will not fall prey to illegal wildlife traders upon his arrival.

This initiative not only aims at giving Zeytin a chance at a safe life back in his homeland but also highlights ongoing concern for wildlife protection in the face of smuggling threats.
