Ecuadorian security officials have successfully apprehended José Adolfo Macías, infamously known as "Fito," following his 2024 prison escape that incited widespread violence throughout the country. We are awaiting their response," via social media. At 45 years old, Macías leads the notorious Los Choneros gang, one of the most dangerous criminal organizations in Ecuador. This escape resulted in a 60-day state of emergency declared by the government and violent riots across various prisons, alongside gang-led attacks, kidnappings, and bomb threats. The capture took place in Manta, located approximately 120 miles from Guayaquil. Ecuador's Interior Minister, John Reimberg, confirmed that authorities located the fugitive in an underground bunker.
