The Ferrari that propelled Michael Schumacher to victory at the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix has auctioned for 15.98 million euros (£13.43 million), achieving a remarkable milestone in the world of motorsport memorabilia. This particular car, the F2001, not only claimed victory in Monaco but also led to Schumacher's win at the Hungarian Grand Prix and helped secure his fourth world championship that same year.

Auction house RM Sotheby’s offered the iconic vehicle right before the qualifying rounds of this year’s Monaco Grand Prix, establishing it as the priciest car ever sold driven by the legendary driver. The sale places it as the fourth most expensive Formula One car sold at auction to date, trailing behind the record-breaking sale of a Mercedes 'streamliner' that fetched £42.75 million earlier this year.

Previously, the highest amount paid for a Schumacher-driven car was £9.75 million for his F2003 model in 2002. As Charles Leclerc prepares to race on the grid in Monte Carlo, currently in a strong qualifying position behind McLaren's Lando Norris, Ferrari fans hope to witness a revival of Schumacher's legendary success at the famous street circuit.
