In brief

An American woman held by the Taliban in Afghanistan has been freed, a development announced by a former U.S. ambassador. The released individual, identified as Faye Hall, shared her appreciation for President Trump in a video posted online.

On March 29, 2025, news broke that Faye Hall had been released from Taliban custody, just after the U.S. lifted significant bounties on Taliban leaders. Zalmay Khalilzad, a former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan and Iraq, posted a video of Hall smiling and thanking President Trump for her release, while confirming she is now in the care of Qatari officials in Kabul. Hall's detainment occurred in February along with a British couple, Peter and Barbie Reynolds, who had been involved in education and training projects in Afghanistan for eighteen years. While Hall has been released, the British couple, who reportedly attempted to resist her separation during the removal, remains in detention. Their daughter described the distressing scene as Afghan guards forcibly separated the women, stressing their intent to leave together.
