In brief

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) has arrested Harpreet Singh, a man accused of involvement in terrorist acts in India, particularly linked to a grenade attack on a retired police officer.

The F.B.I. announced the arrest of Harpreet Singh on Thursday, highlighting his ties to terrorist activities in India. Singh, who entered the U.S. illegally, had been on the run while utilizing disposable phones and encrypted communication to evade capture. His arrest took place in Sacramento, California.Singh is suspected of collaborating with the Pakistani intelligence and supporting a terrorist organization associated with the Sikh separatist agenda. The Indian National Investigation Agency had publicly offered a reward for Singh's capture, as he was implicated in a grenade attack carried out against a retired police official in Chandigarh last September. In addition to logistical support, Singh allegedly provided financial assistance and ammunition to operatives in India who are associated with Babbar Khalsa International, the radical group under scrutiny by Indian authorities. The incident underscores the growing list of Indian nationals wanted by India who have found refuge in the United States, with more than ten individuals, including high-profile figures like Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, facing allegations in relation to terrorism and assassination plots. This arrest signifies a continued collaboration between U.S. and Indian authorities to address international terrorism and combat individuals involved in such activities across borders.
