The Argentine human rights activist Rosa Roisinblit has died at the age of 106, as reported by her organization.

Roisinblit was an honorary president and a founding member of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, a group dedicated to locating children who were stolen during Argentina's military dictatorship from 1976 to 1983.

The organization expressed gratitude for her dedication and the love with which she pursued the search for her grandchildren until the end. It is estimated that around 30,000 people were killed or forcibly disappeared during Argentina's 'Dirty War', and many of their children were seized and placed for adoption.

Born in 1919 in Moises Ville, a town of Jewish immigrants, Roisinblit pursued a career as an obstetrician before moving to Buenos Aires in 1949, where she married in 1951. Following the military coup in March 1976, which led to widespread repression, Roisinblit’s daughter Patricia, her son-in-law, and her 15-month-old granddaughter Mariana were kidnapped in 1978 due to their leftist activism.

Patricia was kept alive to give birth to her son, who was taken from her, while Roisinblit was left to raise Mariana. Years later, she joined the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, serving in various leadership roles until 2022.

Through the organization’s efforts, her grandson was located in 2000, reuniting him with Roisinblit and Mariana after DNA testing confirmed their relation. In the following years, Roisinblit attended several trials involving those who abducted her family, advocating for justice relentlessly.

Roisinblit's work has contributed to the reunion of an estimated 140 stolen babies with their biological families, although hundreds continue to remain missing. Her legacy as a fierce advocate for human rights and family reunification is a poignant chapter in Argentina's history.

Her grandson Guillermo, now a human rights lawyer, has vowed to continue her legacy of justice and remembrance. He expressed profound sorrow at her passing but found solace in the idea that she was finally reunited with her daughter and husband.
