In brief

Ukraine has intensified its drone campaign against Russian infrastructure, hitting key oil industry sites.

In a significant escalation of its ongoing conflict with Russia, Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack targeting oil facilities in the city of Ryazan, approximately 110 miles southeast of Moscow. According to Ukrainian sources, the assault involved a coordinated effort from military and intelligence agencies, resulting in substantial fires at both an oil refinery and an oil pumping station, impacting operations and briefly halting several airports, including those serving the capital. This drone operation marks one of the largest offensives in Ukraine's strategic campaign to undermine Russia's military logistics while simultaneously exerting pressure on its economy, largely dependent on oil revenues. Ukraine has significantly boosted its drone production and has conducted attacks on various Russian oil infrastructures numerous times this year.Social media footage captured the moment fireballs erupted over the refinery in Ryazan. Ukrainian military officials confirmed that the drone strike was part of a broader strategy that has seen them attack Russian refineries and factories 17 times just this year and many more in the prior year. Furthermore, the Ukrainian offensive also targeted electrical component factories in the Bryansk region, critical for the production of Russian missiles. In response, the Russian military claimed to have intercepted over 121 Ukrainian drones across 11 regions, including Moscow and Crimea, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing aerial confrontation. The situation remains fluid as both nations continue to adapt their military strategies in this high-stakes conflict.
