WASHINGTON (AP) — Tyler James Robinson, 22, from Washington, Utah, has been arrested and charged with aggravated murder for the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was speaking at Utah Valley University.

Family members disclosed to authorities that Robinson had increasingly engaged in political discussions, viewing Kirk as a person spreading hate. Furthermore, Robinson is registered to vote but has not affiliated with any political party.

According to court records, he was ordered to be held without bail as multiple felony charges have been brought against him, including felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily harm.

Documents revealed that the arrest followed communication from a relative, who indicated Robinson had either confessed or implied his involvement in the shooting. Several social media messages were discovered where he had discussed obtaining a firearm.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated that authorities believe Robinson acted independently and that ammo found at the incident scene contained engravings linked to meme culture and fascism. Robinson's parents, who are registered Republicans and own a granite countertop business, have not publicly commented on the situation.

The family lived in a six-bedroom home and appeared to enjoy an active lifestyle, with social media suggesting vacations and outdoor activities. Robinson was an academically gifted student, attending Utah State University on a scholarship but completed only one semester.

This troubling incident has shocked the local community, leading to heightened discussions about political violence and the implications of civic engagement in the current political climate.
