In brief
Sophie Chandauka claims Prince Harry's actions aim to undermine the charity's mission after conflicts within the board.
An escalating dispute has surfaced between Prince Harry and the head of a charity he co-founded, Sentebale. Sophie Chandauka, the chair of the organization's board of trustees, accused Harry of bullying and harassment in an attempt to force her from her role. This confrontation became public following Harry’s recent resignation as the charity’s patron, which took place amid ongoing tensions within the board. In an interview with Sky News, Chandauka expressed her feelings of distress and the impact on the charity’s 540 members, stating, "That is an example of harassment and bullying at scale." She argued that Harry’s departure was intentionally disruptive, aimed at diminishing Sentebale after his unsuccessful efforts to unseat her. A spokesperson for Harry and his wife Meghan chose not to comment on these allegations. Sentebale was established in 2006 by Prince Harry in memory of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, to support young people affected by the HIV pandemic in Lesotho, and has since expanded its reach into Botswana. Harry made the announcement about his resignation alongside co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, citing a breakdown in the relationship between the board and Chandauka as irreparable. Just prior to this resignation, five out of nine board members resigned, indicative of the internal conflicts plaguing the organization.
