In brief

Ukraine’s security service announced that Anastasiia Berezovska, the alleged bomber of a parcel device that injured Ukrainian billionaire Vadym Yermolaiev in Monaco, was found dead in a Kyiv forest. She was killed in a shooting after a brief cross‑border hunt, and two men—a former law‑enforcement officer and a current intelligence officer—have been charged with murder. Investigators report she received funds from these men and had contacted them after entering Ukraine. The case adds new twists to the Monaco attack investigation and highlights security concerns for high‑profile figures in Eastern Europe.

In a startling development, Ukraine’s security service (SBU) confirmed that Anastasiia Berezovska, a 39‑year‑old Ukrainian woman who was accused of planting a parcel bomb in Monaco, has been found dead.

Berežovska’s body was recovered buried in a forest in the Kyiv region, with gunshot wounds to the head pointing to a state‑controlled shooting. According to the SBU and the prosecutor general, she was killed a few days after she entered Ukraine, after a cross‑border manhunt had been launched.

The investigation points to links between Berezovska and two men—one a former law‑enforcement officer and the other an active intelligence officer—who have each been charged with murder. Both suspects allegedly provided her with money transfers from crypto and bank accounts and were found to have met her in a car on a highway after the attack.

Public officials say a basement in the former officer’s home contained a room that resembled a torture chamber, but the prosecutor general said there is no evidence the room was involved in the Monaco incident.

Meanwhile, Monaco’s deputy prosecutor reports that the bomb, placed in an apartment hall at 21:00 UTC on 29 June, injured three people, with two seriously hurt, including billionaire real‑estate developer Vadym Yermolaiev and his family. Berezovska was believed to have fled to Italy and then Germany before being pursued by Ukrainian authorities.
