Vincent Pastore, The Sopranos’ Iconic "Big Pussy," Dies at 80
U.S. actor Vincent Pastore, who portrayed Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero on the acclaimed series The Sopranos, has died at the age of 80. The actor was discovered at his Bronx home, and there was no indication of criminality, according to CBS News.
Pastore’s character was one of the most memorable in the show, playing Tony Soprano’s best friend who later became an informant for the FBI. He was killed early in the second season, but his performance left a lasting impression.
"To the world, he will always be remembered as the unforgettable 'Big Pussy,' but to those of us who knew him, he was so much more," said his manager Robert Attermann.
“He loved being an actor. He was passionate about his craft and was always encouraging, respectful, and generous with young actors, taking time to offer guidance and support whenever he could.”
Over a career that spanned more than three decades, Pastore also appeared in films such as Goodfellas and Carlito’s Way and television shows including Law & Order, General Hospital, and Hawaii Five‑O.
In 2000, he and fellow Sopranos cast members received a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
Pastore was born in the Bronx in 1946 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War before turning to acting. He was a beloved figure in the television and film communities until his passing.
